NOTES FROM THE DOLLHOUSE - TEA PARTY

It is almost tea time, and the guests are starting to arrive. I took in the moment, as I stood by the grand window. The sun is shining and the cascading rays are lighting up the entire foyer. The aroma of the botanical gardens dance in every room of the dollhouse. Emily and I had decorated the foyer, grand room and sunroom with every type of flower that is in full bloom from the gardens.

Today I get to be included at the tea party. Today I sit at the table!

I finally sit at the table!!

One by one, the ladies of the community arrive in their colorful, floral and polka-dot print dresses! The fashion in New Brighton is stellar! Many of the women in town can sew and the tea parties were the place to show off your newest dress.

My shin length tea dress was something Emily and I had made special just for today. The deep purple textile looks great against my ivory skin. I feel fancy, almost regal. We worked very hard on it and I am proud to wear it today.

The beautiful ladies embrace one another, praising each other's beauty and recent accomplishments. The smell of sweet treats calls us to the sunroom.

Through the first set of doors, into the grand room we all go. Chatter echos through the enormous room as the ladies start conversations about the latest town gossip of new engagements, new babies, and new business ventures. New Brighton is thriving despite the world around it.

As I try to keep up, hoping to catch every bit of gossip, the piano begins to play. Almost time for tea!

Chamomile, lavender, mint and endless other options are all spread out, but I just really want coffee and cookies.

Mother always sets up a long table in the sunroom for the tea parties. All of us sit at the long table, together. Sitting with these strong, fancy women, I feel inspired.

Mother always hosts the tea parties, and insists on five types of cookies, three types of scones, two types of sandwiches and more fruit than you could imagine. I still just want coffee and cookies.

I love the grand room and the sunroom! When all three sets of doors are open, the dollhouse transforms into a splendid entertaining venue!

The long tea table is dressed with light pink and sage green linens to match mother's pink tea set.

Last evening we pressed and folded her favorite pink napkins into roses. They look stunning. And of course, fresh roses line the center of the table.

Vases of roses and lilies are beautifully positioned in every corner of the sunroom. As the sun continues to shine, the birds sing gracefully from the trees out front.

I must open all of the windows in the sunroom and let the inspiring essence of New Brighton flow in. Time for tea!
